Deutsche Welle Akademie welcomes 4th IMS group

The Deutsche Welle Akademie officially opened its doors to welcome their fourth consecutive batch. 29 promising media journalists from 23 different countries were selected to pursue their two-year Master’s in International Media Studies (IMS).


This program is offered by Deutsche Welle Akademie in co-operation with University of Bonn and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. The unique degree program is composed to train its students to become competent journalists and prepares them for the challenging media industry, in doing so it not only gives the students the theoretical background but also practical training in the actual media environment.

At the welcome ceremony, DW Akademie Diector, Ms Gerda Meuer, congratulated all the prestigious scholarship recipients who were selected among 700 applications worldwide. She emphasised the importance of skilled media professionals in the contemporary media.

North Rhine Westfalia’s State Secretary for Federal Affairs, Europe and the Media, Dr. Marc Jan Eumann, also addressing the ceremony emphasised the media development is important to solve pressing international issues. Dr. Dorthea Rüland, General Secretary for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), informed the audience that the media development in developing countries is on their priority and the cooperation with Deutsche Welle Akademie will be continued to sustain the program in the years to come. Another renowned speaker, Professor Dr. Michael Krzeminski, from Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences said that he wants to  show the ropes of journalism to students. It was great to present memorable souvenir to the Program Director, Prof. Dr. Christoph Schmidt.
